Therma-Tru Window Installation: The Fort Myers Owner’s Guide

Therma-Tru window installation in Fort Myers typically runs $285 to $780 per window installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a sash, hardware set, or doing a full frame install. We stock Therma-Tru-compatible components on our trucks, and most single-window jobs are completed in one visit. Homeowners usually find us after a window stops sealing against summer humidity, a lock no longer bites, or a sash drops hard when opened.

Here’s the thing about Therma-Tru in Southwest Florida: the brand built its reputation on fiberglass and composite entry doors, but its window line shares that same DNA. The frames resist warping in our wet-dry cycles, which is why you’ll see them on homes from Iona to Buckingham. But the moving parts and seals still age, and when they do, you want someone who won’t tell you to replace the whole window over a $40 balance shoe.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

We work on the full Therma-Tru window lineup installed across Fort Myers: the casement, double-hung, sliding, and picture lines, plus the awning windows common on older Lee County builds. Therma-Tru windows are modular, which is good news. A double-hung from their Classic series shares hardware geometry with the higher-end Signature line, so a balance assembly or tilt latch swap is usually straightforward.

The compatibility gotcha owners hit: Therma-Tru changed its balance shoe design around 2016. Older units take a 3/4-inch winged shoe; newer production runs use a 7/8-inch block shoe. If you install the wrong one, the sash either binds mid-travel or won’t stay up. The easiest way to identify what you have is to check the corner of the tilt-in sash for a printed date code, or measure the shoe channel width with the sash removed. We do this every day, and we carry both sizes plus OEM Therma-Tru components and quality aftermarket equivalents. Our rule: if the OEM part is still in production, that’s what we quote. If Therma-Tru has discontinued it, we’ll tell you that plainly and offer the aftermarket option with its expected service life, not a vague “trust us.”

Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent installer and service provider. We’re not affiliated with Therma-Tru corporate, but we are an authorized installer for their products, alongside PGT, CGI, CWS, and five other premium brands.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash drops or slams shut when you open it. Almost always a failed balance spring or balance shoe. In coastal Fort Myers air, the internal springs corrode faster than inland, and once one side lets go, the window becomes a pinch hazard. We replace balances in pairs.
  • You feel air moving around the closed sash. Weatherstripping has flattened or the corner seals have cracked. Florida humidity works its way in and you’ll notice the A/C running longer. This is usually a seal replacement, not a full window replacement.
  • The lock doesn’t catch or takes force to engage. Over time, the keeper and latch drift out of alignment as the frame settles in our sandy soil. Forcing a misaligned lock bends the hardware, turning a 15-minute fix into a replacement.
  • Condensation or haze between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. Therma-Tru uses a dual-seal system like the major Florida impact brands, but no seal is forever. Once the desiccant inside is saturated, the only repair is a new IGU, which we order to your exact dimensions.
  • The window sticks or requires two hands to move. Dirt and corrosion build up in the track, or a shoe has cracked. If you’re reefing on it every time, you’re accelerating the damage. Less force, not more, is the right answer, followed by a track clean and hardware inspection.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Job Typical Fort Myers Price
Balance shoe or spring replacement (per window) $85-$140
Weatherstripping and seal replacement (per window) $95-$175
Lock and keeper replacement $65-$120
Insulated glass unit replacement $210-$460
Full sash replacement (OEM or equivalent) $285-$560
Complete window install (frame and all) $480-$780

These ranges cover parts and labor for homes across Fort Myers, from Riverdale to Waterway Estates. What moves the number: sash size, whether we’re sourcing an OEM part or an aftermarket equivalent, and access (second-story work adds staging time). Before we touch anything, you get a written line-item quote. You’ll know the part cost, the labor, and the warranty, and that price doesn’t change once we’re on site unless we find genuinely hidden damage, and we’ll show you before we proceed.

Every install carries the 36500-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, Ed Winslow makes it right. That’s not a slogan; it’s how we’ve operated since 2011, and it’s why a large share of our Fort Myers work comes from neighbors referring neighbors.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground. You can absolutely identify the problem: check whether the sash drops on one side or both, note whether the lock lines up, and look for visible weatherstripping gaps. A clear photo of the corner date code helps us match parts before we arrive.

Where DIY goes sideways: pulling a tilted sash out of a double-hung without releasing the balance correctly can send the spring flying, which is a real injury risk. Any attempt to remove and reseat an insulated glass unit risks breaking the seal or the glass itself, turning a $200 seal job into a $500 glass replacement. These are not complicated repairs for a trained tech with the right part on hand. They are easy to get wrong with pliers and a screwdriver at 9 p.m. If you’ve diagnosed the problem and want an honest second opinion on whether it’s a repair or replacement, call (239) 453-7751. We answer the phone, any hour, and will tell you straight what it’s going to cost.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"A tile roof repair and new windows from the same company meant one crew, one permit runner, and nobody blaming the other trade. Ed checked the roof work himself before the tarp came off."

HHenrietta Pemberton
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."

MMaximilian Vasquez
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."
